To each their own I guess, I personally think all the different races with their own flavor in a brutal sports setting is a brilliant idea! Just think of what they could do with each race's unique features, like Chaos mutations. Now that we don't have to imagine it, it's played out before our eyes, it's actually quite crap. I think once upon a time, it was a board game, die rolls were necessary, and there was imagination involved. Well this isn't the first remake Jung, there's definitely an audience for Blood Bowl. I don't think it's a problem with the adaptation, I just think the actual original game sucks. It made me think that any game maker that relies so heavily die rolls, has taken one too many spiked balls to the head. There's also the option to play this out in real-time, which is probably every Blood Bowl fan's dream come true, but to me it just looked like a faster paced incoherent mess. Meanwhile your own players are taking die rolls just to not trip over their own feet, which happens quite often, and all this fumbling causes so many turnovers it gives the audience whiplash. Even picking up the ball requires a die roll, and watching your opponent fumble around with it for a few turns, which happens quite often, gets ridiculous. And here's where the game falls apart for me. And if you're on offence, and your player gets tackled, your turn is over.Ĭatching the ball in the end zone, getting knocked down, everything is decided in the usual Warhammer way - die rolls. It's unlikely though, as every time you run past a player there's a chance to get tackled. Theoretically you could run a skink all the way to the end zone and catch the ball there. If the ref sees it and sends you off - you can always bribe him!Īnd the key here is to use the advantages of each race. Pummeling the opposition is encouraged, and while he's on the ground, why not pummel him again, and make sure he doesn't get up. You can make as many forward passes as you want. It's Very loosely based on gridiron, in that the object is to run the ball to the other end of the field to score a touchdown.īut the similarities stop there. One of the spinoffs of these pit all the original races of Warhammer, humans, orks, dwarves, and rat men, in the violent sporting arena known as Blood Bowl.īlood Bowl is innovative in that finds a way to put spikes on literally every surface possible.

Of course there were imagination aids, such as board games, and miniature battle games like Warhammer. I'm told this involves thinking of fun stuff in your brain, and then acting it out in real life.Įxactly.

In age gone past, long before the intertron, people used their imaginations to entertain themselves.
